Commonly asked questions regarding ambulance memberships
1. Who does the membership cover?
The membership covers anyone maintaining permanent residence at that address
2. What type of service to you offer?
We offer a Basic Life Support (BLS) service. This does NOT include the Paramedics (those that provide IV’s, medications, etc)
3. I have a membership, why did you bill my insurance company?
We reserve the right to 3rd party bill. Even if you purchase a membership, we will bill your insurance company. We accept the payment that your insurance company makes. Any remaining balance will be courtesy adjusted and wrote off. **NOTE** if your insurance company requires you pay a co-payment and/or deductible you will be required to pay that. This amount is not something we can write off as it would constitute insurance fraud.
4. Why is there three types of memberships listed?
There is a “Single” membership for those individuals that reside by themselves.
There is a “Family” membership for those that have more than 1 person residing at that location.
There is a “Business” membership for local business to cover their employees while they are at work
5. Why did I receive a check from my insurance company?
Some insurance companies send payment directly to the patient. It is the patients’ responsibility to turn the check over to us OR they may issue us a personal check for the same amount. If you do receive a check please provide us with a copy of the Explanation of Benefits (EOB) that comes along with the check. We will be more than happy to make copies for you.
6. What does the membership cover?
The ambulance membership covers EMERGENCY transports to the closest, appropriate facility. The membership does NOT cover transports to doctors appointments, x-rays, lab work, etc.
7. I have a membership with Milroy and needed transported to another facility, why didn’t Milroy transport me?
If you need transported from one facility to another for further treatment we try to do the transport for members. Your doctor must fill out and sign a “Physicians Medical Necessity Form” and you must meet certain criteria for ambulance transport. However, if you require a Paramedic to ride with you during transport, we can not do those as we are not an ALS service.
8. If I call 911 can I tell them I don’t want the Paramedics?
You can tell them that but depending on why you called 911, they will still dispatch a Paramedic. Once on scene, our ambulance crew may determine that you don’t require a Paramedic and may cancel them. Please keep in mind that depending on your signs and symptoms our crew can not, per protocol, cancel a Paramedic. Paramedics are able to provide you with more advanced care, medications, and/or procedures than our Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT’s) can.
9. Will my membership cover the Paramedics as well as the Milroy Ambulance?
No, Milroy Ambulance membership will not cover the Paramedics that may respond to your assistance. You can purchase an ALS (paramedics) membership through Lewistown Mobile Medical Alliance, better known as Medic 29, which is your first due Paramedic Unit.
10. If I purchase another Ambulance company’s membership, will you honor that other company’s membership?
If you reside in Armagh or Brown township (some area’s of Brown Township are covered by Big Valley Ambulance Club – please be sure to purchase the correct ambulance’s membership) and have another Ambulance company’s membership, we will not honor it. If you however have a membership with Fame or Big Valley Ambulance Club and become ill or injured while in Armagh or Brown Township, yes, we will honor those memberships.
